WHO IS DOING THE RESEARCH?

My name is Dr Belinda Middleweek and I am an academic at the University of Technology Sydney, Australia (UTS).

WHAT IS THIS RESEARCH ABOUT?

This pilot research project will investigate the perceptions and use of self-tracking technologies in the Lioness community and, the meanings users attribute to biometric data collection.

No funding for this project has been received.

WHY HAVE I BEEN ASKED?

You have been invited to participate in this study because I am interested in the Lioness community and perceptions of self-tracking technologies in the sexual health and wellness industry.

IF I SAY YES, WHAT WILL IT INVOLVE?

Answering an anonymous survey of 18 multiple-choice questions that will take approximately 5 minutes to complete.

ARE THERE ANY RISKS/INCONVENIENCE?

Yes, there are some risks/inconvenience involved as you may feel uncomfortable reflecting on the sensitive subject matter or your own intimate data collection practices. You may opt-out of the research at any time without penalty.

DO I HAVE TO SAY YES?

Participation in this study is voluntary. It is completely up to you whether or not you decide to take part.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF I SAY NO?

If you decide not to participate, it will not affect your relationship with the researcher or the University of Technology Sydney. If you wish to withdraw from the study once it has started, you can do so at any time by not completing the survey. As the data collected will be anonymous, it may not be possible to withdraw your data from the study once you have completed the survey.

CONFIDENTIALITY

All data will be anonymised and treated confidentially. Only the Chief Investigator of the project and Lioness will have access to the survey data. As Chief Investigator I will NOT be able to access your biometric data such as information about your pelvic floor contractions, body temperature or device vibration settings. I will NOT be able to access your operational or behavioural data such as your IP address, operating system or browser type. Any data collected from your survey responses will be anonymously stored in a project folder on a password protected university computer that only the Chief Investigator is able to access. I would like to store your information for future use in research projects that are an extension of this research project. In all instances your information will be treated confidentially and in any ensuing publications your information will be provided in such a way that you cannot be identified.
