As someone who creates smart sex toys for a living, I look at a lot of different sex toys for my job.
Ok, I don’t just do it for my job. I also do it for fun. After all, why would I be in this business otherwise if I didn’t find other sex toys interesting?
When it comes to shopping for sex toys, sometimes you don’t see quite what you want in the sex shops. You might want something colorful or just plain different.
Let me introduce you to custom made dildos. Many artisans and small teams create them, and I’m going to tell you about what’s out there and some of my favorites.
What Can I Customize?
It depends on the seller. Many sellers of custom dildos will have a selection of different models to choose from. Some will offer various colors, sizes, and firmness.
Custom-made dildos are not the same as custom-designed dildos. In fact, most dildo artisans will not offer completely custom-designed dildos. Why is that? For silicone dildos, it takes a LOT of work to design the mold in addition to the silicone dildo itself. Doing all that work for a single silicone dildo would be very, very expensive and wasteful if the mold isn’t used again. Even for other materials like glass, there’s still a lot of design planning required. Don’t expect a complete custom unless you’re willing to pay a pretty steep price.
Even if you were willing to pay for the complete custom, it might not be worth it for the artisan, and you should respect their decision.

Simply Elegant Glass makes some of my favorite one-of-a-kind pieces. Versus the others listed here that primarily work with silicone, Simply Elegant Glass makes glass dildos, anal plugs, and kegel eggs with beautiful colors.
The color combinations are beautiful and otherworldly, an adjective you might not expect to use for a sex toy but a word I’d use gladly to describe these pieces.

Clone a Willy / Vulva
If you don’t mind busting out your arts and crafts skills and want to make something from your own body or a partner’s body, you can create your own dildo with Clone-A-Willy or Clone-A-Pussy sleeve! This is a full body molding and casting kit with different silicone colors to choose from.
If you use this kit (or pretty much any body molding kit), one thing to keep in mind is that the molding materials can set pretty fast. It’s not unusual to have to buy two or more kits to have one good mold because you need to have the penis or vulva ready the moment the mold-making materials are ready to set. As you can imagine, it can be kind of a scramble to get all those things lined up together. If you know this before you set up the mold, you may be able to plan, so it’s a bit less of a scramble.

Bad Dragon
If you’re into fantasy dildos, Bad Dragon is one of the earliest and most well-known creators. Fantasy dildos are dildos that take after imagined forms of different fantasy creature penises. There are also sleeves that take the form of fantasy vulvas, anuses, mouths, and even tentacles.
One of the other cool things about Bad Dragon is the breadth of colors, sizes, and firmness they offer for each product design. They not only have a bunch of colors, but they also have special effects like color mixes and glitter(!). Their product page also displays a preview of all of the colors for each design so you can see a preview of what you’d be ordering before you make your purchase.

Phreak is a fun UK-based shop that offers silicone fantasy dildos and other sex toys with unusual designs — from more classic dildo shapes to more unusual shapes like bottles, bananas, and even traffic cones (all silicone, of course).
They also offer custom wand toppers, which are add ons you can add to a wand vibrator. Like Bad Dragon, they offer a range of colors, sizes, and firmness for all of their toys.

Funkit Toys
Funkit Toys are some of the most custom toys available in the custom toy market. The shop is run by Kenton, a designer and certified sexuality educator who designs all of the toys in the shop.
One of the unique things he offers is clear silicone with flashes of colors — whether it’s streaks of colors, rainbows, or more ethereal “northern lights” type of looks. They also offer a variety of shapes if you want something bigger, smaller, or stubby.
One of the other cool things that Kenton offers is the NoFrill series of dildos and anal plugs, which are your silicone sex toy basics at a low price. You can get something handmade, high quality, and affordable.
