Sex toys are not just for women — more and more sex toys are created for men to enjoy on their own or with a partner. A study that was published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine found that nearly half (44.8%) of all men surveyed had used a sex toy at some point in their life (either for solo and/or partner play) and about 17 percent had used a vibrator for solo masturbation. Granted, this survey was conducted back in 2008, which (surprisingly) is now eons ago. With the rise of more sophisticated and tech savvy sex toys, as well as more cultural openness around sex, both of these percentages have likely increased in the last decade.
Why should I get a sex toy?
The same study found that men who had used vibrators before, particularly recently (in the last month), were more likely to have done testicular self-exams *and* also "scored higher on four of the five domains of the International Index of Erectile Function (erectile function, intercourse satisfaction, orgasmic function, and sexual desire)."
While the reality probably isn't as simple as using sex toys = cure ED and cancer, paying attention to the mechanics down there and being open to trying new things (within reason) is usually a good thing.
At the very least, it keeps life interesting. Plus, there are some very cool products that have come out in the last decade that you should know about.
So, what are some of the new sexual products and technologies out there? We'll give the lowdown on some of the most fun, interesting, and unique products by categories:
Best masturbation sleeve for beginners
Tenga creates stretchy, compact masturbation sleeves, each with their own texture. They come with a lube sample (though you can use your own water-based lube, of course) and are good to use several times before needing to buy a new one. Best thing is that they are inexpensive, so they are a great way to start dabbling in sex toys if you're curious but not ready to invest in something more substantial (yet).
Best cock ring
If you're just starting out in the world of cock rings, Tantus makes an excellent line of high quality silicone cock rings. The one above is just under $10 and can provide great stimulation to keep you harder and stronger for longer periods of time.
Best prostate massager
Aneros has been producing products specifically for prostate stimulation for well over a decade now. Their products come in a range of sizes and are created with FDA-approved materials. They also have their own cult following of devotees who have used Aneros to have a "super orgasm." (who doesn't want a Super-O?)
Best butt plugs and anal beads
B-Vibe is a line of anal products (plugs and beads) created by sex educator Alicia Sinclair. They have a wide selection of butt plugs and anal beads, including different sizes and even some remote controlled options. All of their toys are made of body-safe silicone and come in fun colors like the one above!
If you haven't heard of Fleshlight, you may have recently just joined the internet (welcome). They're the classic masturbation sleeve company that creates toys that look like flashlights, but hides interchangeable "sleeves" you can masturbate in, many which resemble vaginas or anuses. They come in all sorts of textures and even have some body parts molded and casted by popular adult performers.
Best unexpected toys
While Crave's brand is a bit more femme than the others on this list, they also create toys that people with penises can enjoy. The one I'd like to call out here is the Crave Pocket Vibe. It comes with a variety of attachments — the one that might be the most enjoyable is the "flutter" one, which you can use to tease the balls and wrap around the penis.

Bad Dragon is the best fantasy sex toy producer in town. As you might imagine, they produce dragon dildos, along with a number of other fantasy toys of different themes and styles (tongues, sleeves, etc.). What's really cool about them is that you can customize the toys by size, firmness, and color, so you can really get exactly what you want. They have quite the cult following, so if this is at all intriguing to you, check out their site!
Yes, it's our own product so take it with a grain of salt, but we mention it here because a lot of men have actually asked about it. Over the years, we've gotten quite a few questions about whether men can use the Lioness Smart Vibrator, whether you can use the Lioness anally... you get the idea. Why do people ask? Because Lioness is a smart vibrator that enables you to track and see your own orgasm in the form of data and charts, so you can track your progress over time and experiment with what you like and don't like.
The short answer is yes, anyone can use the Lioness Vibrator, similar to how you'd use a butt plug, and it works much the same way if someone were to use Lioness vaginally. The main difference is that the data would likely be measured at a higher value when used anally versus when used vaginally. We've done a couple of articles here on the topic — one where we compared "male" vs. "female" orgasm data and another where a brave woman DPed herself to compare her vaginal and anal orgasm data... at the same time.
